All of the Characters in Kobato have an important role whether it is Kobato or Chitose . Here you can find out more information about all of the characters.
Hanato Kobato

Kobato is the main character in the series and her main goal is to heal peoples hearts in order to fill a glass bottle full of the sufferings of people’s heart. If she completed this goal, her wish will be granted and her wish is to go to a certain place. Kobato is a very cheerful girl but is also very strange since she doesn't appear to have much common sense. Kobato is around 15/16 years old (although this is not stated in the Manga). Kobato is very cheerful, optimistic and determined to fulfil her mission. Kobato is a very mysterious person since we have no idea about her past or her family. She is not only innocent but also very naïve and she has a motherly attitude especially in chapter 3 where she hugs Toshihiko back when he was crying. She also tends to be very clumsy and falls over a lot.
When travelling around town one day, she notices a school and realises that the school might be her chance to heal people's hearts. She helps out in Yomogi Nursery School and doesn't seem to be paid for her work. Kobato also seems to be brave and protective, especially when rough debt collectors confront the children. Kobato stands up to the debt collectors to protect the children even though she was really scared. I think this shows that Kobato, is very watchful over the children and will put her fears aside to protect them.
She is very close to Ioryogi and this is started in the first chapter that she is only with him so that she can fill up her bottle of candy although she must be very careful that she does not fall in love with the person she is trying to heal. Also, Kobato is not allowed to take her hat off although the reason behind this is still unknown.
Ioryogi

The little blue stuffed animal that Kobato always carries around with her and keeps her company. Ioryogi likes to call Kobato, Dobato because of her clumsiness. His appearance is that of a blue dog but he can be very short-tempered and bad-tempered with Kobato and he likes to bite. Ioryogi also seems to have super powers such as a very nasty bite and a laser beam that shoots out from his mouth. Ioryogi is assigned to help Kobato with her mission and when he is in the public eye, he likes to appear still just like a stuffed animal. Kobato can be a bit stupid or clumsy and acts really innocent so Ioryogi normally tries to help her out of any sticky situations she is in. Ioryogi has a lot of common sense and knows people's bad intentions but he also likes to make fun of Kobato as well. Kobato seems to forget about Ioryogi sometimes especially in Chapter 2 where he hears all of Sayaka's conversation. Ioryogi also doesn't appear to be able to walk since Kobato drops him on the floor in chapter 3 and he waits patiently for Kobato to pick him up.
Fujimoto Kiyokazu

Fujimoto is one of the first people Kobato meets as he is the one that protects Kobato from a pervert. He has long brown/red hair, which he ties up, and he wears glasses. It seems like he was adopted by Sayaka when was 7 years old and he works at Sayaka's school as well as working for other companies in order to earn more money. He seems to care a lot for Sayaka and offers to give her money to keep the school running. In chapter 4, Fujimoto sees Kobato holding an abandoned kitten and he tells her not to touch him unless she is going to keep him and Kobato instantly notices that he looks really hurt. Fujimoto lives in the same apartment block as Kobato and he likes to tease Kobato a lot especially when she is drawing posters for the bazaar. He puts a post it note on the drawings saying that they are bizarre unidentified life forms. Fujimoto, doesn’t seem to like Kobato but puts up with her because Sayaka likes Kobato although Fujimoto, catches her when she trips in chapter 7 and he tells her that she doesn't need to run around so much. He starts to become a lot kinder towards Kobato throughout the series. In one chapter, Fujimoto is talking to the debt collector and he mentions that he doesn’t have any family.
Okiura Sayaka

Sayaka Okiura is a teacher and owner of Yomogi Nursery School. She has some financial problems when Kobato arrives so that is why, Kobato is not getting paid. She has long hair which is tied back and she wears glasses. She is very kind but she always looks sad when she hears that the school might be shut down. She is threatened by the Yakuza and by the debt collector that if she doesn't pay her debts, then the school will be closed down. She appears to be in her late 20's, early 30's and in the last chapter, Ioryogi finds out that she is related to the debt collector and that he has been causing her a lot of problems. Sayaka adopted Fujimoto when he was 7 years old and she appears to trust people very easierly which has lead to many bad things to happen to her in the past.
Mihara Chitose

Chitose Mihara is the landlady of the apartment block that Kobato and Fujimoto live in. She is one of the classmates of Sayaka. Chitose is a crossover character from Chobits and the apartment block is also the same as the one in Chobits. She lives with her 2 twin daughters, Chiho and Chise, which look like Chii and Freya (without the persocom ears). She is very kind and helps Kobato out by giving her items such as a futon and some sewing equipment.
Mihara Chiho and Chise

Chiho and Chise Mihara are Chitose Mihara's, twin daughters. They normally bring stuff to Kobato from their mother and are very kind towards Kobato. They help Kobato with the bazaar by attending and they also gave Kobato the idea of holding the Bazaar.
Debt Collector

Not much is known about the debt collector but he keeps threatening Sayaka to pay her debts so that the school will not be closed down. He appears at the end of Chapter 5 and starts talking to Kobato to tell her to pass the message onto Sayaka that if she doesn't pay up, he will have to evict her. Although not much is known about him, he is connected in some way to both Fujimoto and Sayaka since Sayaka has the same surname as him and when Fujimoto is talking to him on the phone, he calls him by his last name, 'Okiura.'
Toshihiko

Toshihiko is one of the children that attends the nursery. He is very lively and when the debt collectors threaten Kobato and Sayaka, he fake cries and screams for people to help them so that the debt collectors will go away. He is very nice towards Kobato but his mother is a single mum and tries her hardest to help him even though everybody thinks that she is a bad mum. When he is all alone on the swings in the park, Kobato sees him and tries to cheer him up. She compliments his mother and Toshihiko is the first person that Kobato successfully heals.
